Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Every day during this month, Muslims around the world spend the daylight hours in a complete fast. Special nightly prayers called, Taraweeh prayers are held. This month provides an opportunity for Muslims to get closer to God.

Fasting means restraining yourself from drinking and eating from dawn until sunset. During Ramadan, every part of the body must be restrained. The tongue must be restrained from backbiting and gossip. The eyes must restrain themselves from looking at unlawful things. The hand must not touch or take anything that does not belong to it. The ears must refrain from listening to idle talk or obscene words. The feet must refrain from going to sinful places. In such a way, every part of the body observes the fast.
Well, this year 1st Ramadhan falls on 1st September (Monday). Since 2 months ago, I've already freeze my gym membership during fasting month (September). No point to keep it active. I do this every year and guess what…after raya and all those sinful delicious food…I’ll be mentally recharged and absolutely phyched to hit the gym again. And please do not worry about losing the progress done before. Thanks to muscle memory, you’ll be back in no time. Once you hit the gym again, you’ll be able to regain whatever strength, size or stamina you have lost! After a good 3-4 weeks, you will be back in shape! :-)
Fasting also helps in detoxification of the body. How? Our bodies store toxins but wants to rid it self of them. It is necessary to flush those toxins from the system in order to prevent them from being restored back into the body. When you do a fast it releases toxins from the tissues and they go into the blood stream and other eliminating fluids.
Can you imagine we have been eating for 365 days thru out the year and we never stop unless we are sleeping? At least, this is the time to give the digestive system a break, the body can get rid of the toxins, concentrate on cell growth and cleaning out the colon systems as well.
Basically Ramadhan is the time to regain the soul, giving & mercy and doing more good things and rest physically & mentally.

To all Muslim - Selamat Berpuasa!
